EVALUATION OF THE PHYSICO-CHEMICAL AND MINERALOGICAL PROPERTIES OF A CLAY MINERAL DEPOSIT IN OMIALAFARA IN IFON OSE LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA IN ONDO STATE , NIGERIA

The physico-chemical and mineralogical properties of a clay mineral deposit in Omialafara Ifon Ose Local Government Area Ondo State, Nigeria was evaluated using standard methods. results the study revealed that consisted phyllosilicate minerals- lizardite aluminian, clinochlore feroanB, sepiolite ferrian , neotocite; others were quartz, goethite evenkite very rare hydrocarbon mineral. minerals exhibited good swelling property, medium plasticity, shrinkage excess recommended range, thermal resistance apparent porosity within limit. It had refractoriness below 1200oC. reflection combined characteristics both non-mineral composition which recommends it for variety applications subject to limiting working temperature coloured nature accounted by combination presence goethite.
